The 2016 Chevy Equinox

Posted by: Kristin Kreher

As a 21-year-old girl, I should be spending my time at the Chicago Auto Show sitting in the lap of luxury, geeking out about new tech features and taking advantage of my press credentials that land me in the driver’s seat of an all-new Ferrari convertible.

But my inner middle-aged self can’t help being drawn to the 2016 Chevy Equinox, rotating majestically on its display platform. The newest model of my blue 2007 Equinox has a new look and new infotainment options, but that’s not what attracts me.

You see, I grew up on a farm and learned to drive my dad’s Chevy Silverado at age 9 when my 11-year-old sister taught me to shift gears in the middle of a field. When I finally got my driver’s license, my new-to-me used-to-others Equinox took my friends and I on journeys through back roads and adventures across the Midwest.

My Equinox has been my companion for 5 years now, and it no longer seems like just a method of transportation. Instead, it’s a place of bonding with friends and a deliverer to exciting places.

At the Chicago Auto Show, I’ve gotten to speak with people from all across the region about what their cars mean to them. Many have been brand loyal to their favorite manufacturer for several years, while others see it as a dependable vehicle to keep their family safe; everyone has a different story.

With a nation of people wanting to go places both literally and figuratively, our cars have come to mean so much more to us than just a collection of bolts, metal, and tires. The 2015 Chicago Auto Show is here to help visitors find their next trusty companion.
