Summer Drive Event: Chicago Auto Show Featured Vehicle Roundup

Earlier this month, the Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA) hosted a Summer Drive event, which brought together automotive journalists and manufacturer representatives for the first time in quite a while. The exception, of course, was last month’s Chicago Auto Show, where many folks were reconnected for the first time since the 2020 Chicago Auto Show prior to the pandemic.

The fourth generation Hyundai Tucson is arriving on dealer lots now and it has customers scratching their heads... in a good way. Hyundai didn’t just sharpen their pencils on this one, they started with a fresh new box. I had the chance to bring the 2022 Tucson home for a couple days and this is one impressive compact crossover. This is arguably the most popular segment on the road today with every single manufacturer having a player (or two) in the game. All new inside and out with new powertrains, updated technology and a “sensuous sportiness” design while maintaining starting prices under $25,000 is impressive.

The Jeep Gladiator arrived for the 2019 model year with a lot of hype. It was the first pickup truck for Jeep since Comanche departed in 1992. Gladiator is a 4-door, 5-passenger midsize pickup with exterior styling similar to the Jeep Wrangler. Most notably, the Gladiator is currently the only pick up on the market with a removable roof and doors.

The only auto manufacturing plant located within the city limits is Ford's Chicago Assembly Plant on Torrance Ave. Ford broke ground on that plant 100 years ago and, over the years, the plant has produced some of the company's most iconic vehicles including the Model T, Model A, Thunderbird, Taurus and today's Ford Explorer.
