A car that will 'Spark' your interest...

Yesterday, Chevrolet announced its first all-electric vehicle since the GM EV-1 that was last produced in 1999. Aptly named Spark EV, the battery-powered vehicle will go on sale in the U.S. in 2013. Smaller than the new Chevrolet Sonic, Spark will come in gas-powered versions as well and is best suited to urban driving cycles. Competitors will include ultra-small vehicles like the Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, and Nissan Versa.
The Spark was inspired by the Chevrolet Beat. The Chevrolet Beat was voted the most popular mini car out of the 3 GM concept cars.
Obviously, Spark EV will be targeted directly as Nissan's all-electric Leaf. The Leaf has a 24 kW-h lithium ion battery that gives it a range of roughly 75 miles. Spark will utilize a nanophosphate lithium-ion battery pack produced by A123 Systems. The Spark EV will join General Motor's quickly growing range of alternative energy vehicles that include the extended-range electric Chevrolet Volt, Buick LaCrosse and Regal eAssist mild-hybrids and Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon full-hybrid models.
Stay tuned for more information on the range, power, and performance. However; Chevy will not be releasing this information until closer to the sale date of the car.
