About Me--The new CATA employee!

Posted by: Michelle Ferm

blog1Hi! My name is Michelle Ferm. I am the new Communications Specialist for the Chicago Automobile Trade Association and also for the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. I’ve been with the company for two weeks now. Previous to this, I was in school at DePaul University studying communications with an emphasis in Media Studies. During my senior year I interned at NBC as Lisa Parker’s personal intern. I would research story topics for her and her producer Robin Green, set up interviews, and write content for NBC’s website. I have had other internships as well but you can read more about those if you click on my bio.

My first two weeks have been an exciting experience. I had the opportunity to go to the Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA) dinner and rally last week where we were able to test drive the 2012 models. There was a great range of cars from Mercedes-Benz SLK to the Nissan LEAF to the Fiat 500 and many more.

The next day was also an exciting day because Auto Show General Manager and CATA President Dave Sloan, Dir of Special Events and Exhibitor Relations Sandi Potempa, and I went to the Hanley Dawson Cadillac Dealership in Schaumburg to present a donation from the Chicago Automobile Trade Association to Hanley Dawson IV’s foundation named THANC (Thyroid Head and Neck Cancer). After presenting the donations, we had the opportunity to check out the new Fisker Karma in person.

This week Paul Brian, the director of media relations, and I ventured to Woodfield Mall and participated in an iMovie workshop to freshen up our editing skills in iMovie. I think we both need to practice more with it, but it’ll come with more activity. Maybe some of you have some tips you’d like to share or suggestions for what you’d like to see on the video blog. After our workshop, Paul treated me to one of his (and the auto show staff’s) favorite Chinese restaurants named Mr. Wonton where I enjoyed sesame chicken and Paul had egg foo yung.

Needless to say it has been a lot of different but fun experiences since I’ve been here and it has only been two weeks! I am so excited for the next five months here at the CATA. I must add, from the second I walked in door I was welcomed with open arms and already feel extremely close with everyone here (and I’m not just saying that because they can read this).

What I will be doing here for the next five months is working with social media. Please, check out our Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages for updates on the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. And give us your feedback on what you liked or disliked about the 2011 show, what you would like to see more of this year, and what you might mind not seeing.

I hope you stop by here often. Be more than a Facebook "friend," and become an advocate for the show. It’s great that we’ve got the nation’s biggest auto show right in our own back yard. There are a lot of surprises I can’t talk about yet, but the more I learn and the more I can say, the more fun we’ll have here.

Talk with you soon!

Michelle
