Stunning Concepts Headline Monterey Car Week

Posted by: Mark Bilek

Two stunning concepts headline Monterey Car Week - a 7-day car orgy featuring the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Cadillac's stunning Escala is a four-door coupe concept that takes direct aim at the Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS. Mercedes fired back with its Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 a stunning coupe that spans more than 18 feet long.

We'll let the pictures do the talking, but of the two, the Maybach 6 seems the mechanically fanciful. Under the skin are four electric motors producing a combined 738 horsepower - enough to catapult the coupe from 0 to 60 mph in just 4 seconds. Under the bonnet of the Caddy is a twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8 with cylinder deactivation that likely hints at a range-topping engine for the Cadillac CT6.

Both cars feature sweeping interior designs with nary a traditional gauge, dial or button between them. Most interesting is the futuristic windshield projection on the Mercedes. Neither car is slated for production, but let's hope both eye-catching concepts find their way to the Chicago Auto Show this coming February.
