Chicago Auto Show Blog

Social Media at #CAS15

The Chicago Auto Show has been a Chicago staple for the past 107 years, offering excitement, intrigue and fun to the community and the world. Each year offers a new angle, new cars and new activities to enjoy with friends and family. This year, I have been thoroughly impressed with the involvement of social media and the communication between the CATA, manufacturers, and auto show patrons.

Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Vine and blogs have been vital for the promotion of the cars and attractions for the past few years, and has now become an exceptional way to enhance communication with guests and make the car buying/leasing experience easier. Social media can often have a bad reputation, however it has been a fantastic opportunity to involve the public and see their genuine, fresh perspectives of the show. It is truly exciting to see what cars and attractions people are enjoying and their thoughts on the show in general.

Social media has also been incredibly informative with the newly implemented law in Illinois stating that people who lease cars will no longer be taxed the same amount as if they had bought the car instead. Our Instagram account has played a major role with promoting "The Lease You Can Do" campaign, by posting photos of each car that has a leasing deal. Users who follow our account can see the cars on our show floor and easily find a local Chicago land dealer to find out more information from.

This is my second and final year with the show, and I have to say that the social media aspect of the show has grown from the past as an idea of helpfulness and guidance along with social and promotional material. Social media is ever changing and I am eager to see what the CATA will do next year!
