FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

General Motors Introduces Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD

CHICAGO (Feb. 7, 2019) – General Motors unveiled two new HD trucks during the 2019 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview on Feb. 7. Chevrolet introduced the all-new 2020 Silverado HD and GMC debuted the all-new 2020 Sierra HD. Both trucks have higher trailer capabilities, leading technologies and customization options.

“We set out to make the best HD trucks on the market, bar none,” said Jaclyn McQuaid, vehicle chief engineer for General Motors. “We increased towing capabilities across the line, and not just for dually buyers. We added class-leading towing technologies, such as 15 available camera views, to make trailering more convenient, whether pulling a large cargo trailer or fifth-wheel camper. We made a host of changes to make tasks easier.”

Considered the most capable Silverado HD ever, the all-new truck has a maximum towing capacity of 35,500 pounds, creating a tougher, stronger and more capable vehicle. There are two engines available: a 6.6-liter V8 engine that produces 401 horsepower, 464 lb.-ft. of torque and mates to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Also available is a 6.6-liter Duramax Diesel V8 that produce 445 horsepower, 910 lb.-ft. of torque and mates to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

New technology generates a more integrated experience with up to 15 unique camera views from eight exterior cameras. Among them are a rear-side view to highlight blind spots while towing as well as a transparent trailer view feature displaying the road virtually. Available technologies include auto park brake assist, all-new park grade hold assist, enhanced tow/haul mode, and more.

The frame is built with high-strength steel and coasted with corrosion protection. GM upgraded the suspension for greater towing demands and a smooth ride.

The all-new 2020 Silverado HD goes on sale this summer and will be available in five trim levels: Work Truck, LT, Custom, LTZ and High Country – all trims are available as a dually. Pricing has yet to be released.

The all-new 2020 GMC Sierra HD combines world-class trailering and towing capabilities with greater technologies well in excess of 30,000 pounds. Form and function come together to offer professional grade materials and refinement while delivering power, intelligence and segment advancements.

“The all-new 2020 Sierra HD is the most capable heavy-duty truck that we’ve ever offered,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of global Buick and GMC. “For customers who demand a premium, innovative heavy-duty truck that supports their passions, the next-generation Sierra HD can pull like a pro.”

GMC Sierra HD features include: ProGrade trailering system featuring class-leading available 15 camera views with an in-vehicle trailering app, a segment-first transparent trailer view, MultiPro six-function tailgate, all-new Allison 10-speed automatic transmission with available 6.6-liter Duramax turbo diesel, available smart trailer designed to integrate the iN-Command control system and best-in-class crew cab.

The design is bigger and bolder than ever before with a more confident stance that embodies GMC’s signature refinement and attention to detail. The new interior reflects this refinement with Denali-exclusive materials such as premium leather, wood trim and aluminum decor. Optimized ergonomics emphasize intuitive technology interaction, with but not limited to GMC’s latest touchscreen infotainment systems.

The 2020 Sierra HD goes on sale later this year in 2500HD and 3500HD dual rear wheel and single rear wheel configurations. Pricing and complete specifications are forthcoming.
