Nissan Reveals Powerful, Snow-Battling Concepts at 2018 Chicago Auto Show
Amid an indoor “snowstorm” complete with hot chocolate and snowflake sugar cookies, Nissan continued its tradition of unveiling winter concept vehicles in Chicago with the reveal of two unique, show-stopping concepts at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show’s Media Preview on Thursday.
The Armada Snow Patrol concept is a highly modified vehicle that builds on the capabilities of Nissan’s flagship SUV. Featuring a three-inch suspension lift, extreme off-road tires, massive front-bumper, roof rack, and one-of-a-kind light bar, it looks – and drives – like no other SUV on the show floor.
The Snow Patrol showcases Armada’s 8,500 lb. towing capacity that comes standard on both the 4WD and 2WD variants, its powerful V8 engine and ‘Snow Mode’ setting help drivers battle the snowy Chicago elements. Inside, premium leather seats, contrasting stitching and custom seatback inserts give the rugged vehicle a luxurious look and feel.
“The Armada drives like a luxury vehicle and it has towing capacity and off-road capability at the same time,” said Tiago Castro, director of trucks and commercial vehicles, Nissan North America.
Also making its global debut at the Chicago Auto Show is the Nissan 370Zki, a concept that redefines the meaning of ‘winter sports.’ Built on the Nissan 370Z Roadster platform, the 370Zki (pronounced 370-Ski) is carried on front skis and rear snow tracks instead of performance tires for a winter motorsports experience unlike any other.
The concept, tested and vetted on the Wyoming ski slopes, was modified from the inside out. The drivetrain had to be removed to accommodate the rear tracks; the exhaust system was modified to fit under the vehicle; a custom lift kit was engineered to raise the vehicle three inches; and while the factory brakes remained, the brake lines had to be rerouted.
