Lunch With Jonathon Browning, Prez of Volkswagen? YES, please!

Posted by: Bronson Good

Yesterday I attended the Economic Club of Chicago Luncheon with speaker Jonathon Browning, President and CEO of Volkswagen. I enjoyed a delicious crab cake, grilled chicken breast and steamed vegetables for lunch followed by a delectable chocolate mousse for dessert.

I really enjoyed hearing all about the success and history of Volkswagen and how they made their mark in the United States back in 1951.  They displayed 20 beetles in Chicago at the International Trade Fair forever intriguing Americans with Volkswagen.  I sadly missed the Super Bowl commercials because I was working, but Browning played them for the members, guests and media in attendance and discussed their reasoning for their creative strategy. Being an advertising major, I loved the ads and the discussion of their development!

A new plant has been placed in Chattanooga, Tennessee, bringing the total of U.S manufacturing locations to 33! Between VW’s growing number of factories and their 580 dealerships, Volkswagen has become quite comfortable calling the United States home.

In the "Q & A" session concluding the luncheon, Browning was asked if Volkswagen was considering manufacturing the iconic Volkswagen van anytime soon. His answer: much thought, but "no plans as of now."

Too bad, I would personally love to see one in the making.
