Position in the Oldsmobile exhibit was General Motors' Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESV). The five-passenger vehicle was built by GM to specifications supplied by the U.S. Department of Transportation as a public service for the total sum of $1. Two were delivered to DOT. The ESV was fitted with every conceivable safety concept into a 4,700 package, with a 124-in. wheelbase, 219-inch overall length and 56-in. height. One feature was the removal of the A-pillars to improve driver vision.
