Auto Show still a cheap date!

The Chicago Sun-Times posted a chart that listed the average cost for a family of four to attend various Chicagoland attractions in an article discussing the merits of privatizing Taste of Chicago. Having three children myself, I found the results quite interesting.
The Taste, even with an admission charge came in at $80. Next up was a first-run movie at an equally costly $80. A trip to Navy Pier or one of Chicago's fine museums will set a family back $100. Heading over to the south side to catch a baseball game means you'll drop about $192. Topping the list was a day trip to Six Flags, costing a college-fund depleting $245.
Being a family man, the chart got me to thinking about ways I could better spend my hard-earned cash. The answer was right in front of me. You guessed it, why not come to the Chicago Auto Show?
An evening trip to the show will set a family of four back just $71. How does that break down?
- $22 for two adult tickets ($11 each, but a weekday discount can cut that price to $7)
- $14 for two child tickets ($7 each)
- $10 for parking (after 6 p.m.)
- $25 Family Meal Deal (four hot dogs, soda and chips)
So, next time you are complaining that you can't find anything for the family to do that won't break the bank, remember the auto show!
