Upcoming Mecum Auction to Feature Cars from the Klairmont Kollection

Posted by: Annamarie Beretta

Mecum Auctions and Klairmont Kollections hosted a private event for the Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA) to promote Mecum's Chicago collector-car auction to be held Oct. 5-7 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center. In addition to hundreds of collector cars, Klairmont will be auctioning off 38 unique vehicles.

The Klairmont Kollections is a private museum on the northwest side of Chicago that houses over 350 vehicles spanning 100,000 square feet (on two floors) containing hundreds of outstanding classics, ranging from an original 1930s Duesenberg to a 1918 Pierce Arrow appearing in silver and gold.

Larry Klairmont began his career in the real estate business and would store his, initially, much smaller collection in various spaces around town. Klairmont's first car was a 1927 Ford Model T. This prompted his love of cars.

Vehicles up for auction feature a wide variety including:

  • Two Chrysler Town & Country convertibles from 1947 and 1948
  • Two 1950 Chrysler Town & Country Newports
  • A 1948 Packard Eight Station Sedan

"This collection is a testament to [Klairmont's] youthful spirit and love of cars. It is a very rare, quality collection that spans automotive history well over 100 years," said John Kramer of Mecum Auctions. He described the extreme enthusiasm and passion candidly expressed by Klairmont.

The Mecum Chicago 2017 auction is open to buyers, sellers and spectators. Single-day general admission costs $30 at the door or $20 in advance online; children 12 and younger receive complimentary admission. People can also attend all three days for a special rate. If attendees wear Illinois State University or Chicago Blackhawks apparel on Friday, Oct. 6, they will be eligible for $10 admission or $100 bidder registration.

The auction will be held at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center (1551 Thoreau Dr., Schaumburg) from Oct. 5-7. Doors open daily at 8 a.m. for a preview and the vehicles auction begins at 1 p.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
