Meet Hank the Robot

Posted by: Jasmine Swoope

Talking robots at the Auto Show? Hank is Ford’s animatronic robot who is there to engage with young children and those who are young at heart. Hank is bright blue and silver, and has the resemblance of the famous C3PO from Star Wars. I would argue that he is a distant relative, perhaps a great, great, great grandson.

Hank was named after the founding father of Ford, Henry. Hank has many different versions that visit numerous auto shows across the world. At the Chicago Auto Show he works tirelessly to offer the audience comedic relief and entertainment to the crowd. Hank is actually manned by a human who stands off to the side and hidden from the public eye. This person has on a suit with countless sensors and kinetic devices that allow Hank to mirror the person’s movements. There is also a mic attached that allows the person to speak to the audience through Hank.

Hank does shows every hour between the hours of 11:00a.m-9:00p.m. If you haven’t already been totally mesmerized by the cars at the Chicago Auto Show, stop by Ford to meet Hank. He would love to meet you.
