It's Not Just the Auto Show Anymore

Posted by: Kayley Koter

As I was dropped at McCormick Place this afternoon I thought to myself, this is not an unfamiliar location. I looked around and prepared myself for the week ahead. However, it might as well be. I have never realized the detail, time, and effort that goes into the creation of such a show. An overwhelming amount of anxiety rushed over me as we toured the showrooms and nothing was ready. Looking around you see tracks half built, people running from crate to crate, and cars trying to puzzle together. You cannot even walk around without almost being run over by a man lift. Looking into the showrooms today will not be the same showrooms that are ready Thursday morning.

There is one aspect of this show that I am most excited to experience and that is the preparation. As a 10-year-old Kayley running around this building, I looked at things differently. They were just big shiny cars. I did not care how they got the cars into the enclosed building. Weeks ago these rooms were empty and today they are discombobulated construction sites. Somehow, with around the clock work, these showrooms will become a coordinated display and not one thing will be out of place. Not even one smudge on a car. People may be thinking of this as just another Chicago Auto Show but it is a production and I am beyond eager to see how to it comes together.
