The American Honda Motor Company, Inc. is the North American subsidiary of the Japanese company Honda Motor Company, Ltd. American Honda was founded in 1959 and is based in Torrance, California. At that time is was selling only motorcycles. The first Honda car wasn’t sold in the US until 1970 when the diminutive N600 sedan went on sale in 32 dealers in the Western US. Sales really took off when in 1973 with the introduction of the Honda Civic, a perfect vehicle to meet demands of a nation going through its first energy crisis. Since then Honda has continued to grow as an automaker offering a variety of cars and crossovers and even a pickup truck. True to its roots Honda continues to offer motorcycles, power equipment, marine engines and had its first aircraft certified by the FAA in 2013. Honda also owns and operates the Acura brand of luxury vehicles.
