Kia Corporation, originally founded as Kyungsung Precision Industry in 1944, began as a manufacturer of bicycle parts and steel tubing. In 1952, the company changed its name to Kia, derived from the Chinese characters “ki” meaning to come out and “a” standing for Asia, symbolizing “rising from Asia.” Kia produced its first domestic bicycle in 1951 and entered the automotive industry in the 1960s, initially assembling motorcycles and trucks before moving on to cars. After facing financial challenges and undergoing restructuring, Kia was acquired by Hyundai Motor Company in 1998. Today, Kia is known for producing affordable, reliable, and stylish vehicles, with models like the Optima, Sorento, and Sportage. The brand continues to expand globally, prioritizing innovation and sustainability in its vehicle lineup.
