New 2012 Camaro ZL1 Revs Up Heart Rates

Posted by: Trisha Deehring

The first clue to an exciting event came in the form of a woman passing out earplugs to the crowd. As the lights dimmed, the Chevy press conference began with the eruption of a volcano on screen and fast forwarded through the history of the legendary Camaro. As my dream car flashed on the screen, anticipation filled the crowd who all sat wondering just what was up Chevy’s sleeve.

The first car to pull onto the stage was the new pace car, created to commemorate the centennial celebrations of both Chevrolet and the Indianapolis 500. The car is reminiscent of the original ’69 pace car with its white body and orange rally stripes. 500 of these models will be manufactured for Camaro enthusiasts and Indy fans alike.

After this showing, we all knew something big was coming. It seemed as though everyone sat on the edge their seats, pens poised and camera trigger fingers primed.  After an even more in-depth analysis of previous Camaro models, Chevy rolled out their new 2012 Camaro ZL1. As it pulled onto the stage, the click-click-clicks of the cameras seemed to create an audible whirring above the pumping bass. Crowd members whispered excitedly to each other and all eyes focused on the glossy red paint.  This new model isn’t just a faster Camaro with more high-tech features; it is a completely redesigned, high performance package. The supercharged V-8 engine produces an estimated 550 horsepower and the dual-mode exhaust has been specifically tuned to give the car a signature roar. I think it’s safe to say Camaro isn’t going anywhere on the list of things I’m buying after graduation…just as soon as those pesky college loans are paid off.
