The Drive One Message Is Even Stronger

Posted by: Melody Legge

The Ford press conference stimulated excitement and buzz with the release of three featured vehicles. The vibrant blue stage was splashed with a complimentary bright orange exuberating the Ford logo and tagline “Drive One.” Adrenaline-infused music amped the auto-show enthusiasts as the Ford F-150 with Harley attitude emerged from behind a closed door. The Group Vice President of Global Product Development, Derrick Kuzak, introduced the newly remodeled Harley Davidson F-150, along with the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO and the Transit Connect. Kuzak ensured the public that the “Drive One” message is now stronger than ever with efficiency in fuel economy and technical solutions.

Ford noticed a need for a smaller, more efficient work truck that would encompass the same cargo capacity as a large truck, while being nimble and movable in the city. The company then introduced the Transit Connect having 1600 lbs. of cargo capacity and 130 feet of cargo volume. Some enticing features of this European-inspired vehicle are that it receives 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Kuzak enforced the idea that the Transit Connect is beneficial for small-business owners through a large cargo area that can hold a standard six-foot ladder and doors that open 180 degrees with an optional 250 degrees.
With the release of the Transit Connect, Ford created the “Connect with Connect Contest” that enabled five small business owners to enhance their business with a customized Transit Connect vehicle. Nearly 1,000 small-business owners entered the contest and five winners were chosen based on how their business would benefit from the first electronically-powered vehicle by Ford.

Matthew Wade, owner of Ten Mile Creek Kayaks, said “The Transit Connect is going to change my business. It will help me through this tough economic time.”
The 2010 Ford Taurus SHO with Ecoboost technology was the most anticipated new style that Ford released. SHO enthusiasts were on their feet as the Taurus was presented by the Group Vice President of Ford Marketing and Communications, Jim Farley. The newly-designed Taurus’ powerful Ecoboost allows for fuel economy of a V-6 with the power of a V-8.
