Taking the Test Drive

Posted by: Justine Harris

Jeep, Ford, Toyota and Chevrolet are in the process of building real life test tracks to showcase the capabilities of their vehicles. There are construction and landscaping crews building and beautifying right now, and it's really starting to take shape. Sand, sod, bushes, mulch and more line the edges of these specialized tracks. Each company has a different design for its track, all of them creative and innovative. We're excited to see what all of these vehicles can do, and how these tracks take shape tomorrow. Here's what to look forward to on each track.

Jeep

Each section of the track tests a different feature, including maneuverability, handling, stability, ground clearance, traction and more. As we watched, the Rubicon and Grand Cherokee were being driven on the track. Using boulders, logs, dirt and various other challenging obstacles, Jeep will give fans the true experience by offering rides on this fun track. You better believe we'll take advantage of that offer here in the next few days.

Chevy

The Chevrolet Volt is in the spotlight on this nature-inspired track. The minute you turn the corner, you're immediately taken outside on a gorgeous day. (We're channeling beautiful summer weather in Chicago here!) There are live flowers, greenery, tall trees and shrubs lining the curves of the track, and of course, the city skyline in the background.

Ford

Ford's test track features mounds of sand and a metal teeter-totter. The folks at Ford are still in the process of constructing this track today. The Explorer is the focus in this one, and we're excited to see what elements of the vehicle this track will show off.

Toyota

Road construction ahead! Toyota's track looks just like a real construction site. It's very structural, with features including dirt mounds, logs, plants and orange construction cones. It's really cool. We're also seeing a sign that says, "Complimentary Hat with Test Drive." We'll definitely take them up on that offer.
