FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MedEx Ambulance Service to Unveil Concept Ambulance at 2018 Chicago Auto Show First Ambulance to Include Lockheed Martin Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) on Display

Chicago (Feb. 3, 2018) - WHAT: Chicago-based ambulance provider – MedEx Ambulance Service – will debut a high tech “Concept Ambulance” that includes a Lockheed Martin Indago unmanned aircraft system (UAS) at this year’s Chicago Auto Show. A true one-of-a-kind, this “Ambulance of the Future” is customized with emergency equipment and supplies normally found only in hospitals. MedEx is collaborating with Lockheed Martin and PropelUAS of Evans Incorporated to combine the very best elements of EMS with the potential of tactical UAS.

MedEx’s concept ambulance will illustrate how technology can transform healthcare delivery. One day, emergency response drones could be used to deliver life saving equipment and supplies such as Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs), blood products and medications, just to name a few.

Innovative UAS like Indago can assist, monitor and support MedEx’s highly specialized EMS Teams. The Lockheed Martin Indago UAS was selected for this concept ambulance due to its size and unique capabilities. The 5-lb collapsible Indago system can be easily stored on any vehicle, such as an ambulance, and deployed within a matter of minutes and in all-weather.

Lockheed Martin’s sophisticated unmanned systems are used for a variety of lifesaving military, first responder and civil applications. Indago is used in tasks spanning firefighting, disaster relief, search and rescue.

PropelUAS assists commercial and emergency first responder clientele to operationalize the use of UAS.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
“We’re proud to be here at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show with our partner Ford Motor Company to show off our “Concept Ambulance,” said Lauren Rubinson-Morris, MedEx President and CEO.

In years past, MedEx displayed its innovative use of Google Glass that drastically improves communication between critical care paramedics and hospital emergency rooms. MedEx also introduced an ambulance specifically designed to complement University of Chicago Medicine’s UCAN helicopter service by integrating aviation technology into the ambulance.

“When time is critical during emergency response operations, the Lockheed Martin Indago can be deployed to extend the eyes of EMS teams and increase their efficiency,” said Indago Program Manager Rich Bonnett of Lockheed Martin. “Public safety personnel can operate Indago in all weather, even when manned aerial systems are grounded, and gather high resolution images and video, and record and live- stream data with a smooth, stable video capability, day or night.”
