It's Great to be the News

Posted by: Alex Navrotski

As a long-time resident of the ‘burbs, I’m all too familiar with the Chicago Auto Show. Still, when the chance came to get behind the scenes and make some of the magic happen, I jumped to it. I’ve always seen the show from the outside, a sleek and polished product that auto fans flock to year after year. Right now, though, the McCormick Place is chaos. I toured the show floor, and saw only a hint of what I know the show will be by Wednesday. We’re talking crates, lifts, and workmen and as far as the eye can see. I’ve never seen TV test patterns on such big screens.

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m more of a geek than a car guy. I was floored by footage of the Concept Car Drive from this morning. Even with the economy as it is, automakers are pushing the limits of the technology available to them. In fact, NBC’s Matt Piacente broke my favorite part of the story as I was writing this. I’ll see if I can dig up a video to link to later. It’s great to be the news!

The Chicago Auto Show official concept car footage comes out on the 11th. Jennifer Ferm shot it, I edited it, and you can see it tomorrow.
