Chicago TV Crews Take the Chicago Auto Show's "Media Dash" Challenge

Posted by: Monica Gostkiewicz

On the last day of the Chicago Auto Show, high-energy Chicago TV crews (NBC 5 Chicago, CBS Chicago, FOX 32 News and WCIU) participated in the first-ever Chicago Auto Show Media Dash prior to the show opening to the public. The inaugural Media Dash went off without a hitch - beyond the four news crews nearly tripping over each other as they raced from challenge to challenge.

The heated competition consisted of Alicia Roman from NBC 5 Chicago, Derrick Young of CBS Chicago, Sondra Solarte with FOX 32 News and Chris DeRose of WCIU. First the contestants had to practice their vacuuming skills on a square of carpet that covers the one million square feet of show floor space. Then, the four newscasters sprinted over to a dirtied black 2013 Porsche Cayenne where they were required to clean an entire door - using the Official Car Appearance Car Product of the Chicago Auto Show, Turtle Wax.

After the Porsche was spotless, the crew ran to stack the Official Chicago Auto Show Guide - filled with articles on the latest news and happening in the industry - onto a rack. To bring the competition to a close, the contestants were challenged to take a bite from longtime Chicago Auto Show tradition Ryba's Fudge.

The challengers went head-to-head to vie for the trophy, which was awarded to Derrick Young of CBS Chicago; however, this was very heavily disputed by the other TV morning crews. We propose a rematch next year...
