The future of car prototype creation sits inside the Infiniti lounge at this year’s show.  The possibilities surrounding 3D printing machines have created quite a buzz in recent years.  And now the public is beginning to see why.  Infiniti can use the MakerBot Replicator 3D printer to create a miniature models of their Q60 Coupe concept car.

It takes the MakerBot Replicator approximately 10 hours to create the five-inch replica.  Setup for the printer is relatively easy, the design is uploaded to MakerBot Printshop, PLA filament is fed into the machine and production begins.

An Infiniti representative said he believes 3D printing will someday replace automotive manufacturers’ traditional clay prototypes.  Visitors are able to see the 3D production for the remainder of the show.
