2019 Ford Explorer: The 2019 Ford Explorer is a 7-seat crossover that's only available as a 4-door wagon. Rear- and all-wheel-drive models are offered. Competitors include the Chevrolet Traverse, Dodge Durango, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota Highlander. The Explorer remains unchanged for 2019.
Three engine choices are available: A 3.5-liter V6 that makes 290 horsepower, a 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 280 horsepower and a twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 365 horsepower. All three engines mate to 6-speed automatic transmissions. EPA-estimated fuel economy ranges from 16 mpg city to 27 mpg highway. Maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds.
The Explorer is offered in five trims: Base, XLT, Limited, Sport and Platinum. Available features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SYNC 3, hands-free power liftgate, USB ports, navigation system, adaptive cruise control and satellite radio. Safety features include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear park assist, lane-keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
