2019 BMW i3: The 2019 BMW i3 is a 5-seat electric car that's only available as a 4-door wagon. Only rear-wheel-drive models are offered. Competitors include the Chevrolet Volt EV, Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3 and Volkswagen e-Golf. For 2019, the BMW i3 sees the addition of a new battery with a 30-percent improvement in range.
Only one drivetrain is offered: An electric motor that is powered by an upgraded 42.2-kWh battery that can be charged in 3 hours with the proper charger. An optional two-cylinder gasoline engine is available as a range extender, awarding the i3 an estimated 181 horsepower combined and a total range of approximately 153 miles.
There are four trims available: i3, i3 Rex, i3S and i3S Rex. Available features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB port, Bluetooth, BMW's iDrive infotainment system, premium audio, dynamic cruise control, satellite radio, an onboard information computer, push-button start and rear park distance control. Safety features include pedestrian detection, automatic braking, lane departure warning and blind-spot monitoring.
