THE MIDWEST AUTOMOTIVE MEDIA ASSOCIATION NAMES THE VOLVO XC90
AS THE 2016 FAMILY VEHICLE OF THE YEAR
CHICAGO (February 11, 2016) - The 2016 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview kicked off with the Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA) breakfast. MAMA President Patrick Olsen presented Volvo with the 2016 Family Vehicle of the Year award for the XC90.
MAMA, a nonprofit group of automotive journalists and public relations professionals, developed the award to help the consumer make an informed decision when it's time to shop for a family vehicle.
To qualify for the award, vehicles had to have four doors, start at less than $50,000, appear at one of MAMA's two annual rallies, and be new or significantly updated within a year of the 2015 Spring Rally, which took place last May.
"We are changing a lot. We are changing our design. We are changing our engine," said Lex Kerssemakers, president and CEO of Volvo Cars North America. "What we won't change, though, is keeping the people who drive these cars in mind."
For its sixth annual Family Vehicle of the Year award, MAMA selected three finalists - the 2016 Honda Pilot and the 2015 Kia Sedona were the runners-up.
"MAMA is stronger than ever, and we're celebrating more than 25 years," said Patrick Olsen, MAMA president.
