Show floor "Transforms" into Hollywood premiere

Posted by: Anna Hellgeth

Covering the GM press conference was a red carpet extravaganza! Hundreds of journalists gathered around with cameras angled perfectly at the stage, waiting to get a glimpse of the Hollywood Stars that perform all their own stunts. The show floor transformed as General Motors Vice President Ed Peper unveiled five "car-achters" from the upcoming movie "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." The Bumblebee Chevy Camaro returned once again and was joined by Jolt, Skids, Mudflap and Stingray. Paramount Executive Vice President from Marketing Partnerships Lee Ann Stables sat in the front row as the never-before-seen footage of the cars played. The footage will be featured in the upcoming film released in June 2009.

During the conference, GM Vice President for Global Design Ed Welburn was approached by Michael Bay, the Hollywood director and producer of “Transformers,” to supply the “car characters” for the film. At 10:15am, the Sting Ray Corvette Concept was introduced for the first time, making it an automotive super-star. The Sting Ray Corvette is by far one of my favorite models on the floor. The glistening silver sting ray Corvette Concept is like a modern day bat-mobile that's very sleek and futuristic. The rechargeable Chevrolet Volt is another character that was popular among the media and won the 2009 Green Car Vision award. The Volt can drive for up to 40 miles without using any fuel or releasing any emission! After 40 miles, a small generator kicks in, adding hundreds of miles more to the vehicle's range. Come down and check out the movie car stars at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show!
