FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ram Introduces New Chassis Cab Lineup and Multifunction Tailgate during the Chicago Auto Show Media Preview
CHICAGO (Feb. 7, 2019) – Ram introduced a new generation of commercial trucks including the 3500, 4500 and 5500 during the 2019 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview on Feb. 7. Ram also unveiled a new multifunction tailgate displayed on the 2019 Ram 1500 adding first of its kind 60/40 split swing away functions to the tailgate.
The 2019 Ram Chassis Cab brings a new generation of work trucks to lead the segment in capability, never-before-offered comfort and technology. This Ram lineup is built for heavy hauling and intends to put these skills to the test.
Adding to its leadership in technology, Chassis Cab offers the class-exclusive Uconnect 4C NAV with SiriusXM on a 12-inch touchscreen display made to be capable yet entertaining. Chassis Cab is the only truck in the segment to offer adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking with trailer brakes.
A 6.4-liter V8 engine with up to 410 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque supports the vehicle as well as an array of active and passive systems, such as ParkSense park assist, to support the driver and passengers. A class-exclusive 270-degree camera system with trailer reverse-guidance provides a greater overall range of vision. All-new features and premium materials continue to support Ram’s goal to move forward with quality, durability and, now, class-leading comfort.
In addition to the 2019 Chassis Cab lineup, Ram debuted the new split tailgate design, the Multifunction Tailgate. “This new tailgate, with a 2,000-lb. capacity, is a game changer,” said Jim Morrison, head of Ram brand. “Beyond its traditional capabilities of a fully-dampened tailgate, the Ram multifunction tailgate adds first of its kind 60/40 split swing away functions. It features a unique flexibility with no compromise. Imagine the added convenience of dual side hinge tailgate doors. Independent openings make curbside loading easier, being able to access the bed closer to the bumper makes stepping in easier, loading bulky items easier and unloading even easier.”
The duel side-hinged tailgate doors offer better access to the pickup box, working independently even while hooked up to a trailer. As each door opens a total of 88-degrees, the four configurations of the Multifunction Tailgate include: open flat, open left door only, open right door only and open both doors.
The 2019 Ram Chassis Cab will be available in the second quarter of the year; pricing has yet to be announced. The Multifunction Tailgate will be available across all seven 2019 Ram 1500 models, hitting dealerships in the second quarter of 2019. The suggested retail price is $995; the optional center step is $295.
