Mazda MX-5 Miata Makes Global Debut during
the Chicago Auto Show Media Preview

CHICAGO (Feb. 7, 2019) – Mazda unveiled the 2019 MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary Edition during the 2019 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview on Feb. 7. In 1989, the Chicago Auto Show set the stage for the unveiling of the original Mazda MX-5. Now, with more than 1 million units later, Mazda is celebrating its 30th anniversary of the ever-evolving Miata while remaining true to the spirit of the original.

Masahiro Moro, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations, noted, “There is an MX-5 for every buyer. It is a perfect car for enthusiast driving, lapping around the track, or competing in road-sanctioned racing. The Miata is a foundation for the most popular class of racing in North America accounting for more than 20 percent of the market-share,” Moro said.

Having won more than 280 awards and honors for the MX-5, the brand wanted to challenge engineers to create a fun lightweight car honing into its deep racing roots. Available in both soft top and retractable hardtop, the anniversary model offers a Racing Orange paint job, representing sunrise and anticipation, as well as black leather interior with orange accents and shiny door trim.

“These vibrant stylish elements enhance the customer’s sense of exclusivity and the pride of ownership,” Moro added.

Exclusive features of the Mazda MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary Edition include: RAYS forged aluminum wheels, 30th anniversary badge, orange brake calipers and accents, Recaro seats, Bilstein dampers, Brembo front brakes and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration.

Celebrating three decades of the MX-5, the Miata 30th Anniversary Edition is limited to a production run of 3,000 units, with only 500 offered in the U.S. Within one hour, Mazda fans reserved half of the U.S. allotment of 500, with 100 of those units secured in less than 15 minutes. Within four hours, all 500 of the vehicles were claimed, and the waitlist continues to grow. The limited Anniversary Edition started at $34,995.
