Las Vegas in Chicago!

I’ll be the first to admit that I know nothing about cars. I know how to drive one and that is the extent of my knowledge regarding automobiles. So, I knew working at the Chicago Auto Show would be a learning experience. The enormity of the event is obvious; it is the largest auto show in North America. But the work that goes into the show isn’t as obvious unless you see it first hand.
Today, as we toured the North and South Hall, hundreds of workers were setting up the displays, getting the mini Las Vegas displays ready for the show. From waxing the cars to using cranes to lift signs, workers are doing anything that needs to be done to perfect each display. Each manufacturer has a mini casino area with flashy displays to attract potential customers. Of course, the displays don’t take away from the cars, but add to the presentation of the new cars.
The most unique display was by Scion. It featured fluorescent cars behind garages to be revealed with projectors and music. The cars will put on a show for the media and the public.
Overall, the displays, the workers, and most importantly, the stylish, sleek cars spread across McCormick Place make the auto show one of the most exciting Chicago events. By the end of the week, I’m sure I’ll know more than how to drive a car!
