Hyundai Hope On Wheels Celebrates 15 Years

Posted by: Julie Piatek

For 15 years, Hyundai and its dealers have been dedicated to helping the fight against childhood cancer with their nonprofit Hyundai Hope On Wheels. A major corporate leader in the fight against childhood cancer, Hyundai began Hope On Wheels in 1998 to raise awareness of childhood cancer and commemorate children who are battling the disease.

In addition to donating $14 for each vehicle purchased during the month of September, Hyundai coordinated a unique social media campaign last month titled “Every Handprint Tells A Story” to create awareness about pediatric cancer. Primarily utilizing the Facebook platform, visitors to the Hyundai Facebook application were able to learn about the research funded by Hope On Wheels, view videos of pediatric cancer survivors, share stories via social media and post their own messages of hope. Hyundai fans were also encouraged to “like” the Hope On Wheels page and change their profile picture to its logo – further helping to spread the word.

Additionally, Hyundai utilized Twitter and Instagram to drive photo sharing with the hashtag #GiveHopeAHand. Hyundai encouraged people to submit photos of their own hand with “#GiveHopeAHand” written on their palm.

The power of visuals made a strong impact within the social media community that helped spark a viral campaign, which majorly contributed to its overall success. However, beyond social media, Hyundai also coordinated races and walks throughout the U.S. as a fundraising opportunity for Hope On Wheels. Chicago, for instance, hosted the Chicago Half Marathon and Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K on September 8. The funds raised went directly to local pediatric research.

The Hyundai Hope On Wheels campaign has experienced great success over the past 15 years and continues to gain in momentum, especially with the help of social media and Hyundai’s established advocates. Did you contribute to this campaign at all – whether via social media or by purchasing a Hyundai vehicle last month? Post here or tweet us @ChiAutoShow.
