FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HYUNDAI REVEALS 2018 SONATA HYBRID AND PLUG-IN HYBRID AT
2018 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW

CHICAGO (Feb. 9, 2018) – Visitors to the Chicago Auto Show will be the first to see Hyundai’s Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models, which the company debuted during the 2018 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview at McCormick Place.

The comprehensive redesign of the popular Sonata includes significant interior and exterior updates. The 2018 Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid variants each get a new front and rear fascia, redesigned instrument cluster, updated infotainment system, and come equipped with a bevy of driver-assist technologies such as Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning.

The six-speed Sonata Hybrid is equipped with a 2.0-liter Nu GDI four-cylinder engine, producing 154 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque. A powerful 38 kW electric motor improves fuel economy and allows the vehicle to operate on electric power up to 75 mph. The 2018 Plug-in Hybrid is powered by 9.8 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack, roughly five times larger than the Hybrid’s battery, producing an estimated EPA all-electric range of up to 27 miles.

Speaking to a crowd of media Thursday, Hyundai’s Chief Marketing Officer Dean Evans redefined the meaning of performance, which in automotive language translates to horsepower, speed, handling and agility.

“Performance can also be a reference to extreme efficiency, lower emissions and other environmental factors,” Evans said. “For 2018, we’ve completely redesigned the award-winning Sonata Hybrid in ways to appeal to even the most eco-conscious buyer.”

Playing to fans on the other end of the performance spectrum, Hyundai also revealed its 2018 i30 N TCR, or Touring Racer International. The 330 horsepower track-ready racer, in partnership with Bryan Herta Autosport, will make its debut at the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge.
