CHICAGO (Feb. 9, 2018) – The Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA) announced Thursday the 2018 Honda Odyssey has been named 2018 MAMA Family Vehicle of the Year. The award, now in its eighth year, is a hallmark of the MAMA’s annual breakfast, which kicks off the 2018 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview.

Sage Marie, assistant vice president of public relations for Honda, accepted the award on behalf of all the team members who built the Odyssey. Speaking to more than 400 local and automotive media at MAMA’s annual breakfast, Marie indicated this award was special because it validated Honda’s efforts to build a capable, desirable family vehicle.

The Family Vehicle of the Year Award recognizes those vehicles that deliver versatility, reliability and efficiency to families at a reasonable price. Nearly 100 automotive journalists from MAMA voted, choosing the Honda Odyssey from more than three dozen competitor vehicles.

According to Tim Healey, award coordinator for MAMA, the goal of the award is to help consumers in the car-buying process make informed purchase decisions. To qualify, vehicles must have four doors, be new or updated within the year, start at less than $50,000, and appear at one of MAMA’s two annual automotive rallies.

“Choosing a family vehicle is an important decision,” said Healey. “MAMA members pooled their expertise and experience to select the best family vehicle from an outstanding group of new and significantly refreshed models, and the Honda Odyssey came out on top.”
