HISPANIC HERITAGE DAY RETURNS TO 2016 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW ON FEB. 19

CHICAGO (February 17, 2016) – Together with Telemundo Chicago, the Chicago Auto Show is designating Friday, Feb. 19, as Hispanic Heritage Day in recognition of the rising market of Latino car buyers. Dating back to 2007, Telemundo has partnered with the Chicago Auto Show to present special events throughout Hispanic Heritage Day including autograph signings to music performances.

“We’re thrilled to partner again with Telemundo Chicago to present Hispanic Heritage Day at the Chicago Auto Show,” said Colin Wickstrom, 2016 Chicago Auto Show chairman. “Chicago Auto Show-goers will be able to experience a diverse lineup of vibrant events that celebrate the Hispanic community.”

This year, Friday’s schedule of events are planned to showcase the vibrancy of the Hispanic culture and entertain show-goers, including the following highlights:

  • Noon: DJ La Lokera will take the stage for an hour to entertain Chicago Auto Show attendees.
  • 1 p.m.: Payasitos – or clowns – will provide fun for children who visit the show.
  • 2 p.m.: A Zumba class will begin to get show-goers moving along to the music.
  • 3 p.m.: After the crowd dances along to Zumba, Brazilian dancers will take the stage.
  • 3 p.m.: Telemundo and the Chicago Auto Show will co-host a trivia Twitter chat. Participants can tweet with #CAS16 for the chance to win prizes throughout the hour chat.
  • 4 p.m.: DJ La Lokera will return to the stage to play music and get the crowd moving.
  • 4:30 p.m.: Chicago Auto Show fans can watch the Telemundo talent onstage as they host its live Chicago Auto Show broadcast.
  • 5:30 p.m.: Ballet Folkorico will take center stage for an hour.
  • 6:30 p.m.: The exciting, music-filled day will end with a crowd-favorite Mariachi band.

“We are honored to partner with the Chicago Automobile Trade association on the 108th edition of the Chicago Auto Show,” said Chris McDonnell, president and general manager at Telemundo Chicago. “We are proud to be the official Spanish language TV sponsor of ‘Telemundo Chicago’s Hispanic Day at the Auto Show’ for the past nine years, bringing the importance of the auto industry to the Hispanic consumer. Hispanic Day at the auto show celebrates the culture of Latin countries with music, entertainment and celebrities, while attracting a large Hispanic audience.”

Telemundo is providing coverage throughout the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, including a TV special that aired on Feb. 14. They will host a “Best of the Auto Show” TV special on Sunday, Feb. 21 – the final day of the nine-day show – at 4:30 p.m. and again at 10:30 p.m.
