start from thebeginning

First staged in 1901, the Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent. This year marks the 117th edition of the Chicago Auto Show.

With breathtaking good looks and perfect proportions, the Infiniti Essence dream car was voted the "Best Concept" honors at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. It definitely exerted a powerful pull on the nearly 8000 consumers who voted during the show. The technology and performance statement included a 592 horsepower gasoline/electric hybrid coupe. A key difference over some other hybrid systems was that both the 3.7-liter V6 and the electric motor fed their power only to the rear wheels. Essence previewed a new type of electric motor, called 3D Motor that was positioned between the engine and transmission, drawing power from a compact lithium-ion battery pack. Because the 3D Motor operated in both propulsion and power regeneration modes, the battery pack was kept charged up. A driver-focused asymmetrical cabin was divided into two areas separated by a large curving console between the seats. Fitted in the car's trunk was a three-piece set of Louis Vuitton luggage. In addition, a button on the key fob electrically opened the trunk lid, allowing the trunk floor to slide silently rearwards. For the record, the GMC Terrain HD and Lexus Five Axis Project CT tied for a distant second for Best Concept.
