2014 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW VEHICLE INTROS REFLECT INDUSTRY’S DIVERSE OFFERINGS AND LATEST TRENDS

CHICAGO (February 12, 2014) – From the highly-anticipated, all-new 2015 Subaru Legacy to image-building vehicles like the off-road Toyota Racing Development (TRD) Pro Series, the 2014 Chicago Auto Show was home to more than a dozen new product introductions. As the nation’s largest consumer auto show, the Chicago Auto Show provides a great venue for manufacturers to showcase new models and shake hands with hundreds of thousands of potential customers.

“The auto industry is making a strong comeback and the quantity and quality of new product being released at auto shows nationwide is on the rise,” said Kurt Schiele, Chicago Auto Show chairman. “This past year, U.S. car and truck sales surpassed 15 million and the excitement and attendance at the Chicago show is a strong indicator that things are looking up.”

In fact, the National Automobile Dealers Association Chief Economist Steven Szakaly predicts 16.4 million new cars and light trucks will be purchased or leased in the U.S. in 2014, a 5.1 percent increase from 2013 marking the fifth straight year of growth.

Manufacturer executives discussed some of their latest product debuts that took stage at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show:

“We’re really proud of the [2015 Subaru Legacy] – it’s the sixth generation of the Legacy,” said Subaru Legacy Concept Senior Project General Manager Masayuki Uchida. “This time, we think the overall design and practicality and everything came together – it was a good balance of everything.”

“We just announced we’re going to enter the 2014 Global RallyCross series with the Volkswagen Beetle, the iconic shape of the Volkswagen brand,” said Clark Campbell, general manager of experiential marketing at Volkswagen Group of America Inc. “It’s an exciting new series that reaches a Millennial target buyer.”

“We’re really excited about these trucks, even right down to the paint,” said Mike Sweers, Toyota’s chief engineer of Tundra and Tacoma, of the Toyota TRD Pro Series trucks. “We pride ourselves in our off-road heritage and understanding our customer base who actually take our vehicles off-road. That quality, durability, reliability is built into these trucks.”
