Buick's Marketing Manager Delivers Manufacturer Updates During Midwest Automotive Media Buick Blog PostAssociation Luncheon

Yesterday, members of the Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA) got a brand status update from Buick during the association's monthly luncheon and meeting. Buick's Marketing Manager, Jennifer Nardicchio, led the presentation and highlighted various design qualities and safety features that Buick is using to attract new customers and appeal to a younger demographic.

Last month, Buick experienced its highest sales month in six years. Compared with 2011, retail sales for June increased by 18 percent, while total sales were up 27 percent. The introduction of the hot-selling Verano has no doubt contributed to Buick's sales success. Additionally, all Buick models are IIHS top safety picks for 2012, further contributing to the growth.

When Buick started development for the Verano, implementing a safety strategy was top of mind. The Verano has 10 standard air bags and the security of OnStar, a combination that has yet to be duplicated by any competitor. In the event of a rollover crash, sensors in the vehicle deploy standard head curtain air bags prior to impact and leave them inflated for an extended period.

Additional safety features include:

  • Advanced body structure comprised of more than 60 percent high-strength steel that provides a "safety cage" around passengers
  • Standard four-wheel disc brakes with ABS
  • Panic brake override
  • StabiliTrak electronic stability control
  • Collapsible pedal system that reduces risk of leg injury

The same safety strategy for the Verano is applied to the Regal with an advanced, high-strength body structure and collapsible pedals.

What's next for Buick? Buick's safety commitment story continues in 2013 with the new Enclave and Encore. The 2013 Enclave will be equipped with the industry's first front and center air bag standard which will deploy from the inboard side of the driver's seat and positions itself between the driver and front passenger during a crash. The 2013 Encore will continue to offer smart safety features and a body structure consisting of 60 percent high-strength steel.
