Bridgestone Teens Drive Smart Returns to Chicago

Posted by: Mark Bilek

Bridgestone's Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience continues its mission to educate and save the lives of young drivers with a return trip to Chicago this May.

Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of America's teens, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In 2013, 973 people died on Illinois' roads, 19 more than in 2012. Bridgestone's Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience, with its innovative and potentially life-saving instructional program, will visit the Chicago area to help tackle this problem. On May 17 and 18, young drivers can benefit from this free program as the 2014 Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience visits Six Flags Great America.

The Driving Experience is designed to teach young drivers to:

  • Define and identify distracted driving behaviors
  • Identify the dangerous situations caused by distracted driving
  • Develop a base understanding of driving principles
  • Understand reaction times in emergency braking situations and how to control your vehicle on slippery surfaces
  • Identify accident avoidance and vehicle dynamics

WHAT:
The Bridgestone Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience is a free, half-day program designed to equip teens and young adults with the skills to handle the challenges of today's roadways. Each session combines classroom instruction with hands-on driving exercises -- including a skid pad -- to teach defensive driving skills and reinforce smart decision-making on the road, all within a fun and interactive driving experience. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Additionally, young drivers attending the May 18 sessions will have the opportunity to take their picture with the Stanley Cup. This opportunity is only open to program participants.

Session One:  8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Session Two:  1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
