Volkswagen Beetles Shine in Global RallyCross

Posted by: Michelle Flores

When you think of racecars, do you think of a Volkswagen Beetle? Most people don’t, but they may need to start changing their opinions. Volkswagen has been making heads turn. Global RallyCross is a growing motorsport, and Volkswagen is thrilled to be a part of it.

At the Chicago Auto Show’s Media Preview, Volkswagen brought in Tanner Foust and Scott Speed, two drivers who participate in the Global RallyCross. The two introduced the new Beetle Global RallyCross and gave a walk around. Global RallyCross is a fast-growing, motocross like racing event that many believe has a great future.

“For a car to do RallyCross,” said Foust, “it has to be one of the most talented cars out there.” The impressive Beetle racecars on display were no exception. These Beetles have the ability to go from from 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds.  With a 575 horsepower from a turborcharged 2-liter engine and all-wheel drive, the Global RallyCross Beetle will race through the jumps, dirt turns, and challenges that a RallyCross track throws at drivers.

Foust and Speed’s competition will need to watch out for the Volkswagen, because they have the potential to leave other cars in the dirt.
