USO #BBQ4Troops Media Kickoff Event

To kick off the month-long USO Barbecue for the Troops program, Chicagoland’s new-car dealers and the USO of Illinois held an event in conjunction with Chicago’s beloved Blackhawks. The event took place in the parking lot of the United Center, and many of Chicagoland’s car dealers and media personnel came out to show their support and excitement for such a great cause.
The kickoff event began with presentations from Alison Ruble, President and CEO of the USO of Illinois, and the CATA Chairman Mike McGrath, Jr., as well as a patriotic ceremony honoring the troops. Some Blackhawk’s ambassadors came out to support the cause, including former player Denis Savard and the one and only Jim Cornelison who sang the national anthem for everyone at the event (I mean come on, how cool is that?). What better way to kick off a BBQ for the Troops fundraiser than by eating some delicious BBQ? Real Urban Barbecue and Bub City came out and provided everyone with mouthwatering barbecue including brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and much more. Not only was there great food, but car dealers brought their hottest vehicles to display at the car showcase that took place surrounding the event.
If you haven’t yet heard, the USO Barbecue for the Troops events are fundraisers held at Chicagoland new-car dealerships on Saturday, July 18 to support local troops and their families. In just two years, local dealers have raised $125,000 for the USO of Illinois – one hundred percent of which went directly to local troops – and this year is shaping up to be bigger than ever. In addition to attending a BBQ on July 18 and making a donation, you can also support the troops by stopping in your local dealer’s service center – during your next oil change or tire rotation – to donate loose change in your cup holders. Every cent counts and will be donated directly to local troops!
Show your support on social media as well, and you too could get the chance to win the Ultimate Backyard BBQ! Just submit a 15-second (or less) video or image with #BBQ4Troops explaining why you’re passionate about supporting the troops. Real Urban Barbecue celebrity chef will conduct cooking demos and provide food for the event, Big Green Egg Chicago will leave a grill behind and you and 50 of your friends will get to rub elbows with a Blackhawks ambassador!
With so much support, this year’s Barbecue for the Troops fundraisers are sure to be a huge success. Show your support by going out to your local dealer on the 18th or by donating your loose change throughout the month. Our troops give so much to our country, so now it’s our turn to give back to them!
