Journey to CAS Media Center

Posted by: Elizabeth Degnan

When I first heard about the internship with the Chicago Automobile Trade Association through Bradley University I never thought it would be something I would benefit from. As an aspiring journalist, I have always been interested in entertainment and fashion writing, that's where my strength is. I never showed interest in automobile writing and I was never into cars growing up. However, as I read through the past blog posts, and heard the stories from other students who completed the internship, I was surprised to find that they had an experience that was so much more than just cars.

Going through the interview process, I was anxious to hear about all the different opportunities that this internship would offer me. I came to discover that this is a great way to develop communication skills on multiple different levels and platforms. In the classroom, we always learn about how to cover a press conference or a special event, but with this internship, I am fortunate enough to gain this experience firsthand.

As I begin my journey as an intern I am most excited to see how the press works in real life situations. This is a great opportunity for me to have as a journalism student before I graduate this May. I will now leave Bradley University with knowledge of how to develop content and media packages as a real reporter in real life scenarios. Working in the media center will allow me to see the action first hand and will allow me to develop my own voice while producing content for the show.
