2018 Subaru Legacy Now Available at Chicagoland Dealers

Posted by: Mark Bilek

The 2018 Subaru Legacy, which made its global debut at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, has now arrived at dealerships across the country. The new midsize sedan is sportier, quieter and features significant updates in safety, comfort and technology.

During the 2017 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview, Subaru’s National Manager of Product Communications Dominick Infante commented, "We improved every part of the vehicle that the consumer touches. This was much more than a typical refresh or redesign."

The 2018 Legacy features the roomiest cabin in its segment and comes equipped with a redesigned center console, premium interior trims and a sportier steering wheel. For 2018, a new gray interior color debuts, joining black and ivory. A more efficient air conditioning system keeps the cabin comfortable for all passengers, and an available eight-inch (6.5-inch standard) entertainment screen powers the latest Subaru Starlink multimedia system including Bluetooth wireless capability and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration.

A sportier and more elegant exterior has been achieved by wider, lower grille openings, high-contrast wheels, a distinctive wing and redesigned headlights. Two new exterior colors have been added to the lineup: magnetite gray metallic and crimson red pearl.

In terms of safety, the Legacy gains several advances for 2018 that help to improve the car’s safety including new predictive guide lines for the standard reversing camera, a tire-pressure monitor that measures pressure at all four wheels and upgraded LATCH anchors that reportedly make it easier to install a child car seat.   The sedan also includes rear automatic emergency braking, steering-responsive LED headlights and automatic high-beam headlights that are regulated by the optional EyeSight system’s camera. Consumers can also upgrade to a blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert system.

Subaru claims the new Legacy’s driving dynamics are improved with the addition of a firmer-feeling brake pedal and electric steering that’s revised for more linear response.

The 2018 Subaru Legacy is available in two models: the 2.5i model is powered by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine delivering 175 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque. The Legacy 3.6R is equipped with a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine capable of producing 256 horsepower and 247 lb.-ft. of torque. Subaru's all-wheel drive and active torque vectoring come standard across the Legacy lineup; Subaru claims the Legacy’s standard all-wheel drive is another feature that helps set the brand apart from many competitors in the midsize sedan segment.

The starting price for the 2.5i – available in standard, Premium, Sport and Limited trim levels – is $22,195. The more-powerful Legacy 3.6R is only offered in the Limited trim level which hovers around $31,945.
