FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2021 GENESIS GV80 MAKES ITS FIRST AUTO SHOW DEBUT DURING THE CHICAGO AUTO SHOW MEDIA PREVIEW
CHICAGO (Feb. 6, 2020) – The 2021 Genesis GV80 premium crossover made its auto show debut during the 2020 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview on Feb. 6. GV80, the first SUV from Genesis, introduced a variety of new technologies for the Genesis brand, including responsive electronic control suspension, active road noise cancellation and an active motion driver's seat containing seven air cells - a feature that reduces fatigue from long hours of driving.
Kevin Smith, senior group manager of PR and corporate social responsibility, Genesis communications, stated, "What's cool about the GV80 is that we set out to build a great Genesis first, and secondly a great SUV, rather than just another SUV for the marketplace. Our vehicles are known for their quality, their luxury, great driving capabilities, and this has all of that plus it's a highly functional SUV as well."
The GV80 SUV joins the lineup of G70, G80 and G90 sedans. The interior and exterior styling of GV80 was a collaboration among Genesis Design studios located in South Korea, the United States and Germany. Signature Genesis design elements such as the Crest Grille, the Parabolic Line, the Quad Lamps and G-Matrix pattern, are visible on the GV80. The body structure of GV80 is enhanced with hot-stamped, high-strength steel, as well as lightweight aluminum used on the doors, hood, and tailgate that allow it to achieve competitive curb weight.
The interior of the GV80 focuses on the concept of "luxury in space" which defines the open feeling of the cabin with the G-Matrix pattern as a motif. A 14.5-inch, split-screen infotainment display sits front and center atop the dashboard. The ornate center control unit on the center console covers an electronic, shift by wire transmission base with a dial-style shift. Handwriting recognition through the Genesis Integrated Controller helps users set a destination or enter data without a keyboard on the navigation screen.
The GV80 features the world's first application of Road Active Noise Cancellation (RANC) technology, reducing road noise while driving.
The GV80 is based on a unique rear-wheel-drive platform with all-wheel-drive being optional. Two turbocharged gasoline engines (2.5-liter and 3.5-liter) will be available for the North American market, each paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive models will be equipped with electronically controlled Limited Slip Differential at the rear axle. Electronically controlled suspension with road preview, another Genesis first, provides passengers with information on the road ahead in advance via the front camera.
As part of a brand-level engineering commitment to passenger security and comfort, GV80 features advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including several world-first technologies: Smart Cruise Control with Machine Learning; Highway Driving Assist II; Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist; Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist; Rear Cross-traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist; and Driver Attention Alert Warning.
The GV80 is expected to arrive at dealers this summer.
