2018 ELANTRA GT HATCHBACK MAKES DEBUT AT 2017 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW

CHICAGO (Feb. 9, 2017) - Hyundai revealed the brand-new 2018 Elantra GT hatchback to automotive media at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show Media Preview. The compact hatchback will be lower, wider and longer than previous model and features a whole new look and feel.

The redesigned Hyundai Elantra GT comes standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine capable of delivering 162 horsepower. A GT Sport model will also be available and features a turbocharged engine expected to produce 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. torque.

New for 2018 are several features including vertical LED running lights, heated side mirrors, wireless charging capabilities and an eight-inch entertainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Numerous driver assist features such as pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control are available.

"This is the third time we've unveiled the Elantra here at the Chicago Auto Show," said Miles Johnson, senior public relations manager for Hyundai. "We're proud to have made debuts here in 2008, 2012 and now again in 2017."

Scott Margason, director of product planning for Hyundai, discussed the importance of the 2018 Elantra GT ahead of its reveal.

"Elantra has been a major contributor to Hyundai's sales success," said Margason. "Buyers are looking for more utility in their vehicles, so that's what we're giving them. This is a hatchback that has your back. It's for owners who work hard and play hard."

The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT will be available in dealer showrooms this summer.
