Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid
2013 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA HYBRID: Showgoes will be taking a closer look at the latest member of the Jetta family highlighted in the 2013 Volkswagen exhibit during the 105th Chicago Auto Show. It's the front-wheel drive Jetta Hybrid powered by a high-tech turbocharged gasoline engine combined with a zero-emissions electric motor and compact 220-volt, lithium-ion battery. Since 2011 in the U.S. market, Volkswagen is using its acclaimed 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline powerplant, which weighs just 216 pounds. The downsized four-cylinder develops 150 horsepower, and can be combined with the 27 hp electric motor, and features a clutch that decouples the gasoline engine from the drivetrain when in pure electric drive or coasting modes. The '13 Jetta is the first hybrid to use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and offers a class-leading 0-60 mph time of less than 9.0 seconds and combined fuel economy figure of 45 mpg. If maximum acceleration is needed, the system will begin "Boosting," where the electric motor works in conjunction with the gasoline engine, assisting it to achieve the total system output of 170hp. In addition, the Jetta Hybrid can be driven in pure electric mode at speeds of up to 44 mph and for up to 1.2 miles depending on operating conditions. Consumers have a choice of four trim packages, starting with the entry level Jetta Hybrid. Moving up, is the Jetta Hybrid SE, SEL and SEL Premium. All models seat five in comfort and style, and for the extras, there is 11.3 cu. ft. of grocery room in the tailored trunk.
