Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
2013 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE CONVERTIBLE:
Midwest weather may be chilly during the 2013 Chicago Auto Show (Feb. 9-18), but that wouldn't stop Volkswagen from spotlighting the brand-new Beetle Convertible in McCormick Place. Building on the success of the latest Beetle coupe released as a 2012 model, the 2013 Convertible is a modern reinterpretation of the original VW type 15 ragtop from 1949. There are eight different model packages offered, from the base Convertible to the top-of-the-line Beetle Turbo. Also, there are three special edition Beetle Convertibles for 2013 that pays homage to American cultural history. First, a '50s Edition 2013 Beetle Convertible in classic black with a tan interior. Second, the '60s Edition has groovy two-tone seats and Denim Blue paint. And, the '70s Edition Convertible is finished in a Toffee Brown exterior with vintage chrome-look disc wheels. All 2013 Beetle Convertible editions retain the bold, purposeful stance of the Coupe, including wider tracks and longer wheelbase than previous Beetle convertibles. Sun worshipers have a selection of powertrain combinations when purchasing the 2013 soft top models. The 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine produces 170 horsepower and comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. For maximum high-performance top-down driving, there is the 200hp 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions. And for diesel fans, a 140hp 2.0-liter TDI turbocharged Clean Diesel is offered with the manual or automatic gearbox options. The soft top uses two electric motors to stow the folding roof in just 9.5 seconds, and can be raised and lowered at speeds of up to 31 mph.
