FORD ATLAS CONCEPT: Calling all truck fans! If you want a glimpse at the future of Ford pickups, make sure to attend the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Feb. 9th to Feb. 18th. On display in full glory is the Ford Atlas concept that's a rolling showcase of features that will allow pickup truck owners to work and play smarter, not harder. First off, the prototype is 238 inches in length, with a 150 in wheelbase, which are close to the dimensions of the 2013 Ford F-Series SuperCab. The handsome Atlas concept's body is constructed of high-strength steel including boron, and the exterior shape is the results of a purpose-driven design. Note the chiseled grille that uses active grille shutters to improve aerodynamics to save gas; plus the prominent wheel arches and wide stance. The 22-in alloy wheels are framed by all-terrain tires. Examples that the Atlas was inspired by Ford listening to customers at the places they work and play, are the added multiple tie-down points integrated within the cargo box walls and load floor, along with 110-volt electrical outlets in the cargo box to charge power tools. An integrated roof carrying system and hidden extendable ramps give the truck unique functionality for a variety of jobs. The tailgate step turns into cargo cradle to carry long items. Move inside the cabin and notice the ergonomic "bullring" steering wheel, "floating" instrument pods, glove-friendly buttons and controls, and thin, lightweight leather seating that allows for extra rear passenger legroom. Ford said that a next-generation EcoBoost engine with auto start-stop powers the mighty Atlas, connected with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Visit the official site for more information
