2010 TOYOTA MATRIX: Back for its 2nd-model year, the 2nd-generation Matrix gets Vehicle Stability Control and traction control added to its standard equipment list for 2010. Toyota bills it as a stand alone nameplate, but counts its sales with the Corolla sedan, which shares the basic platform design. There are 4 versions available, starting with the Base, S, S with all wheel drive and XRS. A 132 horsepower, 1.8 liter 4-cylinder is standard and a 158-hp 2.4 liter four-banger powers the S AWD and XRS. A 5-speed manual is standard and a 5-speed automatic is available, except on the S AWD, which gets a 4-speed auto. The Matrix hatchback can haul 5-passengers, or when rear seat is folded flat, hold 61,5 cu. ft. of cargo. Gone is the very similar Pontiac Vibe, a casualty of Pontiac shutdown by General Motors.
