2017 Toyota Highlander: Competing in a fiercely contested class, the 2017 Toyota Highlander seats seven or eight and offers a hybrid variant. For 2017, the Highlander, which competes against the Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer, adds a new V6 engine, new standard safety equipment and a new trim level.The Highlander offers three engines: A 2.7-liter four-cylinder that makes 185 horsepower, a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 295 horsepower, and a 3.5-liter V6 that combines with an electric motor to make 306 total system horsepower. EPA-estimated fuel-economy ranges from 20 mpg city to 27 mpg highway, depending on engine and drivetrain layout. The gas-powered Highlanders are offered with front- or all-wheel drive and six- or eight-speed automatic transmissions, while the hybrid is all-wheel drive and has a continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT).The Highlander is available in several trim levels, including a new sporty SE trim for gas-powered models. Available features include panoramic moonroof, Bluetooth, USB, satellite radio, leather seats, heated and cooled front seats, heated second-row seats, navigation, and infotainment system with app suite.Available safety features include rear-view camera, 360-degree camera, stability control, traction control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, radar cruise control, anti-lock brakes, and dual-front, front-side, driver-knee, passenger-seat-cushion, and side-curtain airbags.The 2017 Toyota Highlander has a starting price of $30,630, not including destination and delivery fees.
