2016 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE: Big news at the Volkswagen exhibit during the 2016 Chicago Auto Show is the arrival of new models and naming to simplify the Beetle Coupe and Convertible family lineup. For 2016, the two-door compact models include the Beetle 1.8T S, SE, SEL and 2.0L TDI clean diesel, R-Line and brand new Beetle Dune. Base powerplant is a 150-horsepower, turbodiesel 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Additionally, there is the 1.8L turbo four that develops 170-hp and the 210 hp 2.0L four-cylinder in the R-Line. A choice in transmission includes the six-speed manual gearbox and the six-speed DSG automatic with Tiptronic and sport mode. Desirable features are the transparent, panoramic tilt/slide glass sunroof, navigation system with a five-inch touchscreen and push-button start. A new lighting package is available for 2016 on all 1.8T and TDI models and R-Line S and SE models, including Bi-Xenon headlights; LED daytime running lights; and an LED rear license plate light. Make sure to check out the 2016 Beetle Dune painted in Sandstorm Yellow with an interior that features body color upper door trims and dash pads. Another exclusive short-run model, the 2016 Beetle Denim, will be arriving in dealerships in early 2016, and offered in Pure White or Stonewashed Blue. On the Convertible, the top has been finished in dark blue with a brand new textured fabric that resembles denim. Paying homage to the 1970s Jeans Bug, the vehicle revives the rich heritage of the Beetle brand, offering fans a modern take on this classic model. The roomy cabin continues to seat four passengers and the trunk offers 15.4-cu.ft. of space. When rear seats are folded, the capacity increases to 29.9-cu.ft.
